Shaping and Dyeing to Show Off

‘Shaping and Dyeing to Show Off’ is an exhibition of works by six local members of the World Shibori Network Australia and New Zealand (WSN ANZ) in Gallery Two and The Woolshed.

The official opening by Ann McMahon will be at 2pm Saturday 3 October 2015 in the Woolshed.

The art of Shibori, which is the Japanese word for Shaped Resist Dyeing, is practised around the world. Examples have been found in the tombs of ancient Egyptians and the Incas of South America, Japanese and Chinese culture and it is still practiced in many African and Asian cultures.

The artists in this exhibition are Marli Popple (ACT), Kevin Schamburg and Marcus Bogie (Queanbeyan), Simone Doherty, Hellen O’Sullivan and Joan James (ACT). These members have exhibited in Shibori exhibitions around the world and in Australia with the World Shibori Network, as well as many other exhibitions.

The next Shibori workshop is at Strathnairn on Saturday 10th October, 2015. For more information about the Workshop or the Exhibition please visit the website here, or visit Strathnairn on facebook here.

I love the tones of the Shibori dying technique. This promises to be another fantastic exhibition held in the beautiful Woolshed Gallery of Strathnairn Arts, in Holt, Canberra. I hope you get to visit! ~ K
