TAE18 AUS – Call For Artists!

Twitter Art Exhibit 2018 – Canberra Australia

“Through art we can change the world.”

#TwitterArtExhibit utilises social media and public engagement to generate income for charities and nonprofit organisations.

I am so excited to be curating the Twitter Art Exhibit, (#TAE18 AUS) which will be held in Australia for the first time next year!

#TAE18 AUS will be the eighth instalment of this worldwide art experience, uniting artists from every part of the globe through social media in support of a worthy cause, who in 2018, will be Pegasus – Riding for Disabled of the ACT Inc.

To be held at the Strathnairn Arts Gallery, Canberra, the TAE18 AUS Exhibition of original postcard art will be held in April 2018.

Each year the Twitter Art Exhibit features original postcard-sized art created and donated by artists from all around the world, with the proceeds of the sale of the original art benefiting a local Charity.

The entire exhibit is carried out by an unpaid, volunteer corps of organisers and artists; there is no entry fee, and artists of all career levels are encouraged to participate, making it possible for emerging talent to appear alongside seasoned professionals.

A spirit of generosity imbues this exhibition, as it has from its inception.

Founder of the Twitter Art Exhibit, David Sandum, a Swedish-born artist and social media influencer in the field of fine arts, first conceived of the open exhibition in 2010 as a vehicle for doing good through online community building.

The first exhibition hoped for 140 entries, symbolic of the 140 characters used on Twitter. The response was so enthusiastic that 260 cards were submitted from 24 countries, Sandum raised enough funds to buy 221 new children’s books for a struggling library in Moss, Norway.

Curated by Cat Salter – Smith, the 2017 Twitter Art Exhibit – Stratford upon Avon UK received over 1200 entries from 63 countries, and raised over 18 000 GBP for the Not For Profit Charity, Molly Olly’s Wishes.

Entries were received from Artists and Celebrities worldwide, including from Sir Ian McKellen, Gok Wan and renowned UK Artist Norman Ackroyd CBE, RA.

Next year the TAE18 AUS will benefit local Charity, Pegasus Riding For the Disabled of the ACT Inc.

Pegasus ACT is a charity providing horse facilitated therapy programs and activities for people living with a disability. Pegasus ACT are the only Riding for the Disabled Centre in the Canberra region.

The Twitter Art Exhibition will also hold an Online Exhibition, enabling worldwide access to the original postcards for Art enthusiasts. All sales will benefit the Not for Profit Charity, Pegasus Riding for the Disabled of the ACT.
