If I could I would spend my days between the mountains and the sea. I have been infatuated with drawing from a young age, it is intrinsic to the process of my art practice and my sense of self. Full time professional artist, Kylie Fogarty creates in her studio which is based in Canberra, Australia,
Kylie was selected / invited to exhibit at the Kedumba Drawing Award 2023 and 2020, a finalist in the 2021 Ravenwood Australian Women’s Art Prize, the 2018 Grace Cossington Smith Art Award as well as The Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize 2018.
Engaging the use of negative space, line work and a limited palette to she invites consideration of her subject matter.
Loose winding organic forms, delicate, highly detailed line work and softly blended tones convey her fascination of cloud formations, coastal scenes, and narrative moments of time. Kylie employs contemplative, subtle yet bold expressive marks to explore her response to the natural world.
This expressive yet considered mark making, allows Kylie to engages line work to depict the connections within. As a result her love of drawing has extended into a diverse practice which includes drawing, printmaking, painting and miniature works of art.
Works of note include “Wattle Study Vii” which was acquired for the imaging on the box of Madame Flavour’s Australian Afternoon Grey Teas and her large scaled mixed media works “The Grand Duo and Stringybark Study No.2” were commissioned for the lobby of Quest Canberra CityWalk Apartments.
Kylie’s intaglio etching “Brushtail Possum” was exhibited amongst the many beautiful prints of the 2013 Animalia Print Exchange.
The 2013 Animalia Print Exchange Exhibition raised $4,200 for the World Society for the Protection of Animals. It was exhibited in The Milk Gallery, Bowral; Sydney; Il Bisonte in Florence, Italy and also in the U.S.A.This collection is now permanently archived in the National Gallery of Australia, along with the 2015 Animalia Print Exchange, in which included her intaglio print “Foraging Kiwi”.
In 2013, “Bird on a Rock” – Miniature Line Drawing , was acquired for the use in a broadside gift, for International acclaimed Poet Anne Carson, for ‘Nox’ by Stanford University.

An artist who enjoys to collaborate with like minded artists, Kylie has illustrated three books: Friendly Fred Meets Tiberious, by Joyce Will; Children’s Book, The Misadventures of Chris the Sheep, a collaboration with the RSPCA ACT, Children’s book; Azure Assurances – a book of interpretive drawings of poetry by Hobart writer Crystal Davies; and along with other illustrators, contributed to the children’s book, Wendel, by Victoria Jones.
Kylie is a member of AIM, the Art In Miniature Group of Canberra and also ASMA, the Australian Society of Miniature Art (NSW).
