A Marine Theme for the next Instalment….

What do intertwined Sea weed, barnacles and a simply stunning Sea Horse bring to mind for you? Well for me, it reminds me of hours of beach combing on the rocks, looking for shells and playing with cunjevoi!

Page One of the Sea Booklet, stunning work of Anna Warren.

Third in line of the art collaboration between Anna Warren and Karen Bailey, when I opened the book to see the stunning works they have created, instant memories came flooding back to me. I don’t think I ever got to see a sea horse in one of my rock pools, crabs, octopus and starfish yes, but wouldn’t be wonderful to find one as beautiful as this?

Such a beautiful seahorse by Karen Bailey.

I’m so thrilled to be a part of a wonderful collaboration and to be following such beautiful work. I loved the spider theme that Anna had started with the first book (here) and this marine theme is no different. So once again I took a deep breath, picked up my trusty pen and started drawing. As the lines climbed over the page I felt as though I was ten again amongst the rocks of the landscape.

The first stage of my part in the art instalment, next stage – colour!

Hours upon hours of climbing rocks and checking in rock pools for cowrie shells, they were always happy times. I guess this is why the theme of the sea will always be amongst my work.

I’m adding the colour next, I love this part as I can define and shade with tones and layers of wash……yep yep yep, happy times!

I’m going back to my studio to add the colour in now, but in the meantime, if you want to read more about the inspiration of Anna’s seaweed you can read it here, and then you can gain insight into Karen’s next page here.

…make sure you check back to see the final result! In the meantime, have a great week ~ K
